The COVID-19 pandemic that spread globally by the end of 2019 has changed the
world drastically. The purpose of this article is to analyze the daily practices of the people
in Cateura, Bañado Sur in Asunción, Paraguay, by applying the concepts of risk developed
by various social scientists. Furthermore, by intersecting the concept of risk with a gender
perspective, it attempts to examine how people in urban slums perceive their risks.
The NGOs founded by the people from Cateura viewed the COVID-19 pandemic
as an objective, not subjective, risk and used their community networks to extend and
strengthen their community improvement activities. It can be speculated that the familism
that is unique to Paraguay has bolstered the regional ties.
In brief, this article demonstrates that people who live in more vulnerable conditions
see risks in a complex way relative to their daily practices, and they mitigate risks through
negotiations with non-community members. Striking differences between different
genders were also witnessed during the process of risk mitigation.
This article suggests that we can effectively understand risks by dividing them
into various individual concepts, and by intersecting the concepts of risk with gender to
develop further analyses. -

This article analyzed the field trips by Yokohama National University to Paraguay collaborated by NPO, which have been conducted since 2013, and clarifies the following points. First, the field trips to Paraguay are made possible sustainability through cooperation by many actors like; Japanese and international cooperating faculty members, local NPOs, slums and rural people, senior students, junior students and the author as NPO representative. Second, during the implementation of activities, participating students foster relativization of self and multifaceted thinking and undergo major changes in consciousness. Third, NPOs and other organizations provide an opportunity for students to realize international cooperation activities, rural people regard students as actors in development practice, while at the same time, rural people are hosting students, power relations are balanced. Finally, students who have traveled to Paraguay tend to make a wide range of occupational choices, such as returning to Paraguay, going out to other country, selecting an occupation that is connected with other countries, and selecting an occupation that connects people and society. However, there is a certain percentage of participants who go on to engage in NPOs worker or in social entrepreneurship. Through close collaboration with NPOs, students gain deepen local practical experiences in different languages and different cultures in distant country; Paraguay, Latin-American, leading to occupational choices that they had never thought about before participating the program.

横浜国立大学は2013年より海外フィールドプログラム：パラグアイ渡航を実施し、複数の組織と連携することから学生たちは国際協力の実践を積むことができている。本発表ではプログラムに参加してきた１）学生たちの意識変容、２）引率教員の意識変容、３）現地における社会還元の3つの軸から分析する。教室と現場の往還にはどのような意味があり、文化人類学/開発人類学の視座はフィールド実践に有効であるのかについて考察する。

La presente investigación está enfocada desde la perspectiva del análisis antropológico y se posiciona en estudios sobre la conciencia de las mujeres de las zonas rurales del Paraguay frente a su salud reproductiva, tomando y analizando discursos propios, historias de vida así como datos cualitativos. El trabajo abordó el hecho de “tener hijos” y “el cambio en el comportamiento” a través de la participación en las actividades sociales. Las personas entrevistadas en este estudio fueron las mujeres participantes del proyecto de mejora de la calidad de vida, obteniendo datos entre los años 1994-2001 y 2013-2016. Este estudio revela lo siguiente: la conciencia de las mujeres de las zonas rurales es construida en la sociedad donde estas viven y el mundo significativo que la gente tiene acerca del género y la reproducción no son fijos sino que siempre cambian inestablemente, conectándose y reaccionando con la economía e historia local y global, así como con “los demás”; la conciencia de las mujeres es deconstruida o reconstruida por ellas mismas; estas mujeres, aunque mantienen la parte de ser mujeres como objeto, tienen el potencial tanto para adquirir espacios donde ellas mismas pueden resistir, así como para tomar iniciativas de nuevas acciones.
