<p>Protein soils must be removed for both appearance and hygienic reasons. They are denatured by heat treatment or bleaching and cleaned using enzymes. Among the various types of protein soils, blood soils are the most noticeable and known to be denatured by heat and bleaching by oxidation. We verified herein that the detergency of heat and oxidatively denatured hemoglobin is greatly improved by the enzyme immersing treatment in the detergency with SDS and can be analyzed using the probability density functional method. The probability density functional method evaluates the cleaning power by assuming that the adhesion and cleaning force of soils are not uniquely determined, but instead have a distribution in intensity, with a usefulness that had recently been demonstrated. This analytical method showed that the cleaning power of the enzyme immersing treatment improved when the soil adhesive force was decreased due to denatured protein degradation, even though the cleaning power of the SDS remained unchanged, and the values were consistent with those in the cleaning test. In conclusion, the probability density functional method can be used to analyze enzymatic degradation of denatured protein soils and the resulting changes in their detergency.</p>

<p>To improve the detergency of mud stains without triphosphate, we developed a new composition that enhances the detergency of mud stains more efficiently. To develop the composition, a new correction method based on the probability density functional method was used to compare the results of approximately 100 cleaning tests conducted on different days using various active ingredients. As a result of various evaluations, it was found that the combination of a homopolymer with a molecular weight of approximately 2000 and a chelating agent can effectively improve the detergency of particle stains. By combining washing experiments with different polymer concentrations, water hardness, turbidity, and reduced viscosity, we were able to estimate the expansion of the polymer and the washing mechanism using a combination of low-molecular-weight polymers and chelating agents.</p>

<p>Four indexes related to quantification accuracy and three indexes related to identification accuracy were investigated to clarify the reasons of their accuracy decrease in the simultaneous measuring using the GC-MS AIQS-DB method. Seven items concerning (1) the variation of quantification value in repeated measurement, (2) the lower limit of quantification value, (3) the change of quantification value effected by coexisting substance, (4) the recovery ratio in solid phase extraction, (5) the change of retention time, (6) the decrease of peak similarity and (7) the decrease of S/N ratio were ranked and scored based on the measurement results for 280 chemicals registered in the Japanese PRTR Law. As the result, it was found that 134 chemicals have the accuracy level enough for a screening evaluation, and that 105 chemicals were required detailed examinations to clarify the reasons of decrease in quantification accuracy and the identification accuracy. The comprehensive assessment matrix consisting of quantification accuracy and identification accuracy presented in this study shows the level and the cause of accuracy decrease. Therefore, it makes possible to assess the analysis accuracy as well as the detection of the large amount of monitoring data of simultaneous measuring using GC-MS AIQS-DB.</p>

<p>Semi-volatile industrial chemicals of 147 kinds were investigated their degradability by the screening tests for photolysis/hydrolysis. The numbers of chemicals with degradation ratio of 80% or higher were 0 in hexane in the dark, 89 in hexane in the bright, 6 in water in the dark and 55 in the water in the bright, and almost all of the degradation was photolysis. As the results of the literature surveys of major information sources deeply related with the chemicals management in Japan, 84 chemicals were degradable and 32 chemicals were non-degradable among 300 industrial chemicals. This result indicated that the public information concerning degradability of chemicals in the environment was not known so much. A list of 55 industrial chemicals and their 105 degradation products were made up, the simultaneous measuring methods using GC-MS and LC-MS/MS were established, and then the simultaneous measuring were carried out for 138 river water samples collected from 73 points. Not only the chemicals discharged to environment were detected but also their degradation products at the various molar concentration ratios. Therefore, the comprehensive environmental monitoring including degradation products were considered urgent issue as well as the collection of their hazard information.</p>

<p>From three different sewage treatment plants, three effluent samples were collected to demonstrate applicability of a non-targeted mass spectrometric analysis for exploration and identification of organic ecotoxicants in the samples. Five known organic ecotoxicants were added to these samples to simulate toxic samples. The non-targeted analyses of the simulated samples were conducted with a liquid chromatograph-high resolution mass spectrometer. The whole effluent toxicity tests were conducted by using <i>Raphidocelis subcapitata</i> as the test organism. The number of components detected by the analyses was 3,427. Relationships between peak volumes of these detected components and the samples' toxicities were analyzed by the orthogonal projections to latent structure-regression analysis, the correlation analysis and the multiple regression analysis. An ion of <i>m</i>/<i>z</i> 286.9436 was found as a possible monoisotopic ion of the added toxicant. A molecular formula of the ion was determined by its accurate mass and natural isotopic pattern. The determined molecular formula was searched in an advanced mass spectral database. The database suggested that the found toxicant is triclosan (an antibacterial and antifungal agent). It was identified as triclosan by a co-chromatography using a reference standard reagent. Because a dominant toxicant was triclosan among the added five toxicants, the applicability was successfully demonstrated.</p>
