<p> The main purpose of this paper is to develop a new intrusive method to replace the traditional non-intrusive methods, such as Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). By using the proposed method, the estimation of the stochastic response surface does not require time consuming multiple simulations, but the uncertainties in wave parameter can be estimated by optimizing the stochastic objective function only once. This study discusses the uncertainty in wave parameters estimated by using the present method when both the transfer function and the measurement data contain uncertainties. The validity of the present method is discussed by comparing its results to the results of uncertainty analyses through the MCS in which solutions of the deterministic problems are collected.</p>

A general and efficient scaled method for stiffened plates subjected to combined longitudinal compression and lateral pressure is proposed based on slenderness, simply by adjusting the number of stiffeners. The design method makes it easier to determine the dimensions of the scaled model for a given scale ratio compared with the previously proposed method. The emphasis is on the influence of the plate slenderness, the column slenderness, and the non-dimensional parameter of the lateral pressure on the ultimate strength. By maintaining the consistency of the plate slenderness and column slenderness, the proposed method is applicable for designing scaled models with materials of different yield stresses and Young's moduli. A similar effect of the lateral pressure on the ultimate strength of the prototype and scaled models is achieved by maintaining the non-dimensional parameter. In addition, the applicability of the scaled method to the initial deflection is considered, which provides a reference for similar models. The similitude of the scaled method is verified for several typical buckling modes, including the beam-column, tripping, web and overall collapse modes. Given the numerical results, the proposed general and fast scaled method can provide reasonable dimensions of scaled stiffened plates subjected to combined loads.

<p>To ensure structural safety of large container ships, advanced application of monitoring data is pursued in the structural health monitoring project. In this study, we estimated statistical sea state that the ship actually encountered using Bayesian updating of the sea state data estimated from the measured hull stresses. To achieve reliable real-time short-term statistical estimation of the sea state, we introduced forgetting rate to the past data in the Bayesian model. In addition, abrupt change of the sea state due to the ship operation was detected by Bayesian analysis of the data to obtain probable time history of the sea state by Bayesian update. As a result, good tracking performance of the real time sea state was demonstrated.</p>

Existing rule scantling formulae of plate members are based on conventional plastic design theory, and do not necessarily reflect complicated plate bending phenomena under axial loads. In this study, we first formulated the effect of axial load on the fully plastic moment based on the von Mises yield criterion for longitudinally stiffened plate in addition to the well-known formula for transversely stiffened plate. In addition, we derived a theoretical formulation of the lateral pressure corresponding to 2-point hinge and 3-point hinge formation taking account of the effect of the additional lateral force due to the axial loads on the deflected plating, using a simple plate strip bending model assuming a long plate with a large aspect ratio. Then, a series of elastic-plastic FE analyses was carried out to verify the structural behavior and the effect of axial load on the plate plastic bending strength. The plate strength was evaluated based on the residual deflection criteria of two cases (0.26 mm and 4.0 mm), and the results were compared with the theoretical derivation. As a result, it was found that assumption of linear strength reduction to the axial stress can cover the transversely stiffened plate under compressive axial stress conservatively. As to the transversely stiffened plate under tensile axial stress and the longitudinally stiffened plate, the strength reduction was in accordance with the reduction in the fully plastic moment based on the von Mises yield criterion in the conservative side. Finally, based on the findings, the required plate thickness coefficients were proposed on an empirical basis both for transversely and longitudinally stiffened plate under compressive and tensile axial loads.

It is necessary to develop a system that reduces the load on the marine traffic control because its work is manual and heavy. In this study, we created a ship behavior prediction model using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) to explore the possibility of marine traffic control and ship maneuvering support by machine learning. Specifically, we predicted the position and course of a ship that would go through the bend of the Uraga Channel from 5 items (length, width, course, speed and position) and displayed on a map. It shows that the effectiveness of ship behavior prediction by machine learning has been confirmed.

The recent increase in the size of container ships has resulted in lower natural frequency of the hull girder vertical bending and torsional vibrations; this has caused great concern regarding excessive whipping in these responses to incident waves. To accurately account for whipping in ship design, it is important to understand the relationship between the whipping response and sea states in which the ship operates. However, this specific topic has been reported little to date. In this study, we quantitatively analyze the influence of various sea states and navigational conditions on the whipping response in hull girder bending vibration and torsional vibration based on full-scale measurement. Moreover, a simple estimation method is proposed for fatigue damage using the relationship between whipping and sea states/navigational conditions. By providing quantitative analysis of the relationship between whipping and sea states/navigational conditions, our study will contribute to future ship design to ensure better operation safety and longer hull life.

<p>A new scheme for the polynomial chaos expansion (PCE) is developed and tested to quantify the propagation of the input uncertainty in CFD. The Haar wavelet is used as basis for the PCE instead of globally continuous, orthogonal polynomials to properly represent the strong discontinuity such as a shock wave. We further extended the method to inputs with arbitrary probability distribution functions (PDF), although the natural application of the Haar wavelet is the uniform PDF. A transonic nozzle flow with an uncertainty in the nozzle-exit pressure is simulated. The wavelet basis well reproduces the Monte Carlo simulations at a single execution of the program, unlike the multi-element (ME) PCE developed in the previous report. But the quantitative agreements of the statistics are better obtained by the result using ME-PCE. </p>

有限要素法を用いたき裂進展予測においては、き裂進展をステップバイステップに行い、各ステップにおいて自動メッシュ生成が必要となる。本研究では、き裂進展解析に適した信頼性の高い四角形自動メッシュ生成手法の研究開発を行った。また、精度の高いき裂進展解析を行うために、各ステップにおけるき裂進展長さのの自動調整手法を提案した。

近年著しく発達してきたマルチメディア技術を工学教育の手段として効果的に活用できるのではないかと考え、材料力学教育のためのマルチメディアソフトウェアの研究開発を行った。具体的には、オーサリングソフトウェア(Director)を用いて、CG・アニメーション・インタラクティブ性の効果を利用した従来の教科書に比べて概念や現象を理解しやすい教材を開発した。また、開発したソフトウェアを実際の教育現場で使用して、その効果をアンケート形式により調査し、マルチメディアを用いた教育の有効性を示した。
