A Study of the Learning about the Art Education Utilizing the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (2) Utilizing ATL Skills (Approaches to Learning skills) and Inquiry-based learning in Wood Craft

In the International Baccalaureate, a comprehensive international educational program, students learn Approaches to Learning (ATL) or generalized skills from the outset of the program and incorporate them into their learning activities. I analyzed the results of surveys to discern whether the students were aware of and applied their skills in their education. Furthermore, to aid in the students' understanding of concepts like quality and aesthetics in the shaping of natural materials in woodworking, we established research questions for the students to consider throughout these activities. We then analyzed the students' written responses to discern whether they had actually engaged in deeper learning. We found that if the skills were explained in practical terms, the students understood their meaning and were aware of them in each instance of learning. We found from the research questions that the students developed a deeper understanding of the beauty of crafts and the necessity of the arts through a practical application of artisanry. Meanwhile, how thoroughly ATL skills are applied in the students' learning activities has become a matter to be addressed at a later date.

The purpose of this essay is to explore the effectiveness of IBDP, related to the currently ongoing reforms in high school/university articulation, by making clear the characteristics of the evaluation of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programmme through literature research or field study, and characteristics of IBDP and Art, Crafts and Design of British GCE-A level through the comparison of the contents of evaluation purpose between them. There are art assignments for two external evaluations and one internal evaluation, and the students' daily attitudes in class are evaluated as they are in all evaluations. Both IB and GCE-A level utilize the grades in high school as a qualification for university enrollment. IB applies evaluations of art and other subjects to university entrance examinations. It is confirmed that IB is effective also in Japanese education for the continuity of study between high school and university and the establishment of broad academic ability.

<p>International Baccalaureate's ATL (Approaches To Learning) skills are versatile skills set to "learn how to learn", and it shows five categories (Communication, Social, Management, Research, Thinking) and ten clusters (Communication. Collaboration, Organization, Affective, Reflection, Information literacy, etc.) in the MYP (Middle Years Programme). Competency-based learning is the mainstream in many countries around the world, and various skills are also shown. In this paper I compare the skills shown in CCR (center for curriculum redesign) and ATC21S (Assessment and Teaching of 21st century skills) with ATL skills. As a result, it was confirmed that although the way of classification and the position are different from the purpose of each system, there is no big difference in each skill. Also, I studied how the students feel about ATL skills through art classes at a junior high school (not IB school). As a result, I learned that many students felt growing about the skills handled in learning, such as communication skills and reflection skills. It was conceived that demonstrating concrete skills such as ATL skills is sufficiently informative for the next course of study that clarified the development of competencies.</p>

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) emphasizes conceptual understanding and studies inquiry-based teaching and learning. The purpose of this research is further conceptual understanding by art education, by applying the learning of IBMYP to the art education of the Japanese junior high school. In this study, I paid my attention to the IBMYP three inquiry questions: factual questions, conceptual questions and debatable questions. I researched that when they produce art works considering inquiry questions, students will strengthen conceptual understanding and feel art close to them. As the result of investigation of some questionnaires and other explorations, many students were able to consider contents of inquiry questions, and were able to have their opinions. But some students did not understand the statement of inquiry which is important theme of the lesson. It was thought that the statement of inquiry was seldom considered by the students during the art lessons. I consider that they hardly touched them. From this, I was sure that in order for students to do conceptual understanding by art education, it is effective to make art works with thinking questions and statement of inquiry simultaneously.

本実践研究は，国際中等教育学校開校に向けて，国際バカロレアＭＹＰの考え方を取り入れたカリキュラム開発を目的とする諸研究の一環として行われた。本稿は国際バカロレアの概略とそれに基づく授業の目的及び実践を記録したものである。練馬や東京という地域の美術に着目し美術館訪問や，作家インタビューをしながら自分たちで美術展を開催する活動を通して自ら学ぶ国際バカロレアの教育について研究した。本研究は平成17年度科学研究費補助金(奨励研究)[課題番号17901002]の助成を受けた。本研究は美術科教育学会で口頭発表した。（

南極昭和基地とで交信しながら授業を行うことが可能かどうかが目標の一つであった。これは国際中等教育学校として海外と広く交流していくためのステップとして捉えた授業実践である。本実践には南極越冬隊員として昭和基地で勤務した本校理科の教員の協力があった。南極から送られた画像に本校生徒の作品を合成しさらに越冬隊員に鑑賞してもらい，意見を聞くなどして双方向的な授業を行った。 本研究は平成15年度科学研究費補助金（奨励研究）[課題番号15912006]の助成を受けた。

本研究は東京学芸大学美術教育研究室相田隆司氏と私の共同研究である。本実践は平成13年度から附属高校大泉校舎とともに行っている文部科学省指定研究，中・高一環研究開発課題「文化的・社会的に多様化する生徒特性に対応する中等教育学校構想を視野に入れた教育課程の編成に関する基礎的研究」の一部として行った。本実践研究は生徒が実際に映像メディア=デジタルビデオ撮影とその編集作業を行い映像メディアを表現活動にいかに活用できるかを検証することを目的とした。本研究は東京学芸大学平成13年度「重点研究費」の助成を受けた。
