<p>In the passive intermodulation (PIM) measurement of microstrip lines using non-contact planar connector, this letter presents a proper sample length for the 3rd-order PIM measurement due to closely frequency-spaced transmission waves. Our experimental study using nickel-plated samples as a distributed PIM source reveals that a spacing between non-contact connectors should be a quarter guided wavelength in order to suppress the effect of non-contact connectors on the PIM measurement results and maximize the observed reverse PIM. We also demonstrate a circuit-network simulation using the harmonic balance method, which agrees well with and validates the experiments.</p>

<p>This letter proposes a concept of residual noise reduction when using multiple testers for non-contact passive intermodulation (PIM) measurements with near field sensing for array antennas. As described herein, the harmonic balance method and the finite difference time domain method are used for simulation. Examination is conducted for third-order PIMs in two-tone testing in the 2 GHz band. Simulation results indicate that the PIM noise which is weaker than the residual PIM of each tester becomes detectable when using the proposed method. The concept is validated further through experimentation using an equivalent array circuit in the 2 GHz band.</p>

<p>In this letter, we propose the variable low-PIM termination composed of a voltage-controlled IM-source, a fixed attenuator, and a linear attenuator. The design method for evaluating PIM-level of the fixed attenuator is presented in order not to limit the variable range of entire termination. It is possible to maintain low-PIM performance in spite of using active voltage-controlled IM-source, whose IM level is extremely high. This termination is used for a dynamic residual noise identification for PIM measurement systems by observing the saturation value for voltage sweep. The validity is confirmed by experiments in 2GHz band.</p>

A localization method of PIM source inherent in the array antenna is proposed. It is shown that the PIM source position can be estimated from the observed PIM level with changing excitation phase difference of each element, and the effectiveness of this method is validated experimentally.

In this paper, non-contact NM measurement method using a coaxial tube is expanded to a small anechoic box. We used printed dipole antenna terminated with a resistive matched load as sample. The validation of measured NM level is confirmed by the estimation that obtained from measured mutual coupling between antennas. By compensation of PIM level, it is confirmed that an uniform value independent of the position of sample is obtained.

In this letter, we propose a partial impedance-matching method using a two-strip resonator for noncontact Passive Intermodulation (PIM) measurements using a coaxial tube. It is shown that the strip closer to the inner tube of the coaxial tube is dominant in the observed PIM characteristics while both strips are excited equally. The ideal efficiency of power to each strip is 50%, which is a significant improvement in comparison with conventional methods.

A low-profile four-beam switched array antenna for mobile terminals is proposed in this paper, A flat antenna concept modeled as a square magnetic line current array is realized by thin trapezoidal cavity elements. A unidirectional beam is obtained which can be redirected by alternating input terminals of the hybrid coupler, Element characteristics are calculated approximately using a cavity model with the two-dimensional finite-element method. Input characteristics and radiation pattern of the array antenna are evaluated by experiments.
