三脚型配位子とブルーサイト型層状水酸化物との特異な相互作用を利用した層状複水酸化物や層状金属水酸化物の表面修飾法を解説した。得られた層状複水酸化物ナノ粒子や、ハイブリッド層状金属水酸化物を用いたアニオン交換への応用、ナノシートの形成等の物性制御について紹介し、水酸化物を用いた材料設計について議論した。

第69回日本セラミックス協会進歩賞の受賞記念講演を行った。進歩賞受賞業績であるコロイド結晶を柔軟な鋳型とした種々の金ナノ構造体の制御法とそのメカニズムについてのこれまでの研究成果をまとめ、総合的に議論した。また、イモゴライトやカオリナイトといった天然セラミックス原料をフレキシブルなコロイド状ビルディングブロックとして用いた階層構造制御プロセスを報告した。

三座配位子は分子性酸化物クラスターであるポリオキソメタレートと選択的な結合を形成することが知られている。本講演では、ポリオキソメタレートと類似の局所構造を有する固体物質である層状複水酸化物の表面に三座配位子を修飾する新たな合成法を報告した。これにより、層状複水酸化物の粒子径を10 nm程度にまで抑制し、アニオン交換体としての性能が著しく向上することを議論した。
