This webinar explained the change in Yu Dafu's identity in Singapore. As everyone knows, Yu was a very famous Chinese writer. From 1938 to 1942, he had worked in Singapore as an editor for a Chinese newspaper. From previous research, it was known that Yu had been influential among the local Chinese writers. The speaker also pointed out that he had been influenced by the locals as well. The webinar was divided into three parts. Firstly, the speaker talked about Yu's background; secondly, discussed Yu's activities in Singapore; and finally, went over the factors that had led to the change in his identity. In July 1941, Yu had started a reportage project "One Day in Malaya", aiming to promote Malayan Chinese unity. Although Yu had an unshakeable belief in Chinese Literature, he had contributed to the establishment of Malayan Chinese Literature as well. In conclusion, the germination of Yu's identity change could be observed through his project 'One Day in Malaya'.
