    Especially, for the synthesis of macrocyclic π-extended thiophene hexamers by using McMurry coupling of dialdehyde composed of three thienylene, two ethynylene, and two formyl groups, reduction of ethynylenes to vinylenes is often took place to produce unique products by a one-pot procedure, depending on very small steric and electronic effects such as reaction temperature, amounts of titanium reagent, and substituents of thiophene hexamers. The attractive structures and functional properties of reduced thiophene hexamers have been determined by using X-ray analysis and OFET measurements.

    Phenyl-substituted macrocyclic π-extended thiophene hexamer composed of four thienylene-ethynylene and two thienylene-vinylene units has been synthesized. The macrocycle formed a nanostructured fibrous material, in which a porous organic framework was constructed by π‒π, CH‒π, and van der Waals interactions. The yellow and orange fibers exhibited reversible shape and size changes by desorption and adsorption of acetone vapor at ambient temperature. The structural change was accompanied with vapochromism, and the mechanism of shape and size changes was estimated by horizontal and vertical profiles of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of the fibers, together with absorption and emission spectra

    Radical cation derived from π-extended thiophene 6-mer composed of four ethynylene-thienylene and two vinylenethienylene units forms a stable three-dimensional giant π-dimer having total 70π-electrons. The π-dimer formed in solution has been investigated by magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy, which enabled unambiguous discrimination of the assignment of the UV-vis-NIR absorption spectral bands corresponding to the closely interacted π-dimer. Furthermore, X-ray analysis of the π-dimer revealed that the π-dimer shows a threedimensional face-to-face contacted and continuous π-conjugated structure.
    The UV-vis-NIR and ESR spectra also confirm the close stacking, and the diatropic nature of the three-dimensional conjugated π-dimer predicted by theoretical calculations was verified by solid state 1H NMR measurements

    機能性色素創製を目指した新規発色団の合成と物性研究の一環として、非ベンゼン系芳香族化合物(トロポン、8,8-ジシアノヘプタフルベン、アズレン)を組み込んだ新規トラン型化合物を設計・合成し、物性研究を行った。その結果、これらの化合物が優れた蛍光材料として応用可能であることを見出した。また、その中でもアズレン系分子は、温和な条件化で蒸着膜を作成することができることを見出した。

    環を含む巨大環状共役系の合成とその機能に関する研究、および ② 剛直な三次元構造を有する新規π拡張環状共役系分子の合成とその機能に
    関する研究、の2つのテーマを設定し実施する。本研究では,環集合型巨大環状π共役系分子を効果的に合成してその性質・機能を調査する。
    次いで、巨大分子の持つ新機能の創出を調査して,ナノ分子化学や有機機能材料に関する新知見を提供することを目指す。

    小さなπ共役系分子を合成単位として一段階でπ拡張大環状共役系分子を合成する方法は、π拡張大環状共役系分子の簡便な合成法として魅力的である。また、得られた大環状共役系分子は新しい機能性有機π電子系の創出という観点からも興味深い研究である。今回、そのようなπ拡張大環状共役系分子の設計・合成と構造ならびに物性を調査する研究の中でも、非ベンゼン系芳香族化合物を組込んだπ拡張大環状共役系分子の研究成果について紹介した。
