<p>Decarbonization is considered effective through the electrification of residential areas. However, due to constraints such as equipment installation space, the ease of electrification varies depending on the type and age of the housing. Additionally, changes in technology are less likely to occur when replacing household equipment such as water heaters. Particularly in apartment buildings, it is difficult to switch from gas water heaters to heat pump water heaters. Therefore, this study models the remaining household equipment and analyzes the optimal selection of energy technologies for homes.</p>

<p>Toward a decarbonized society, power generation methods using renewable energy are attracting expectations. Various studies have been conducted on the evaluation of the amount of renewable energy introduced, but it is important to consider the spatial unevenness and the superiority of various power generation methods to evaluate the amount of renewable energy introduced more realistically. Therefore, in this study, we estimated the global renewable energy potential by considering the land competition for solar power generation and solar thermal power generation.</p>

<p>Existing energy system models do not consider mineral supply and demand, making it difficult to analyze the optimal energy system in terms of both energy and mineral supply and demand. This study clarified the possibility that the shortage of cobalt resources will be a barrier to the introduction of EVs and stationary storage batteries by newly modeling mineral supply and demand in the energy system model.</p>

<p>In order to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050, this study focuses on the steel and cement sectors, which are among the industrial sectors with the largest share of global greenhouse gas emissions, and develops a model that explicitly considers decarbonization of manufacturing technologies. In this study, we examine decarbonization scenarios for Iron and steel and cement sectors by introducing new technology options in the explicitly expressed steel sector, and by newly modeling cement demand and manufacturing technology.</p>

<p>The OCCTO has formulated the master plan to realize a carbon-neutral society, and plans are underway to expand the power system in conjunction with the introduction of renewable energy. In this study, we constructed a Japanese energy system model that considers the bulk power system and analyzed the optimal power source configuration and the amount of transmission line expansion in more detail than existing models. The results suggest that it is reasonable to construct zero-emission thermal power plants in the suburbs of large cities, and that a nationwide expansion of transmission lines is necessary if electricity is to be supplied solely by renewable energy sources.</p>

<p>This study develops a temporally detailed global energy system model considering lithium's supply constraints and material balances. Several 100% renewable energy scenarios by 2050 with lithium supply variants are investigated. The simulation results indicate that the future of the lithium supply has significant impacts on the cost-optimal deployment of vehicle and energy storage technologies. Strategic energy and mineral planning would be critical for mitigating climate change cost-effectively.</p>
