The local ordering of particles is considered an important process in glass transition. Ordering is usually observed in simulation and micrometer-sized colloid. However, clear information on local ordering at the molecular level is difficult to obtain experimentally. In this study, we prepared an easily glass-forming fluorophore with a color change owing to the intermolecular arrangement in the liquid, glass, and crystal states. The bathochromic shifts of the photoluminescence spectra indicated a change in the intermolecular orientation upon immediate cooling of the melt. The recovery of the spectra by successive heating indicated that rotation contributed to the change in the intermolecular orientation. The orientation in the glass was distinct from that during crystal growth, which was observed as a slow bathochromic shift by maintaining the temperature between the melting points of the blue- and green-luminescent crystals obtained from dichloromethane/ethanol and dichloromethane/hexane, respectively. Our results demonstrate that the anisotropic interaction between glass-forming luminophores is useful for uncovering molecular-level events in the glassy state.

改質剤ポリマーをエポキシ樹脂の硬化系中で生成させることにより樹脂硬化物の強靭化を達成する手法(in situ重合法)について、著者らの研究成果を中心に総合的にまとめた総説である。ビニルポリマーを改質剤として用いたin situ 重合法の利用により、酸無水物硬化・アミン硬化・フェノール硬化エポキシ樹脂の強靭化が可能であることや、カチオン重合硬化型脂環式エポキシ樹脂へのin situ 重合法の適用、さらにエポキシ樹脂以外の熱硬化性樹脂のin situ重合法による強靭化などについて、詳しく解説した。

4,4'-ジフェニルメタンビスマレイミド(BMI)を3,3'-(メチレン-1,4-ジフェニレン)ビス(3,4-ジヒドロ-2H-1,3-ベンゾオキサジン)(Pd-BOZ)で変性することにより、250℃以上のガラス転移温度(Tg)を有する耐熱性に優れた硬化物を得ることに成功した。この樹脂系を半導体封止材に適用したところ、Tg 270℃,Td5 470℃を超える高耐熱性を示すことが明らかとなった。また、従来の封止材と比較して成形温度は上がるものの、硬化性に問題はなく、機械特性も同等であることが示された。

リグニンへのエポキシ基の導入によるエポキシ化リグニンの合成について、生成物の高分子量化を抑制するための反応条件検討を行った。モデル化合物であるコニフェリルアルコールを用いた検討において最適であった反応条件を使用してリグニンのエポキシ化を行ったところ、生成物の分子量増加が抑制され、エポキシ化リグニンの軟化温度を約40℃低減できることが明らかとなった。また、このエポキシ化リグニンを主剤、フェノールノボラックを硬化剤として用いた硬化物の作製にも成功した。

ビスマレイミド樹脂(BMI)、P-d 型ベンゾオキサジン樹脂およびビスフェノールA 型シアナート樹脂(BAD)を用いた3成分系での硬化反応により、高耐熱性、低熱膨張係数および高強度を併せ持つ樹脂硬化物が得られることを明らかにした。BMI,P-d,BAD の混合系樹脂は全て250℃を超えるガラス転移温度を示した。 また、以前の研究で使用したBMI+P-dの二成分系と比較し、三成分混合系では未硬化樹脂の粘度が大きく低下し、BMI+P-d 系での160℃より40℃低い120℃で溶融成形できることが示された。さらに、FT-IR スペクトルの測定結果から、未反応官能基は残存していないことが確認された。

水蒸気爆砕法により成分分離されたメタノール可溶性爆砕リグニンをエポキシ化することによりエポキシ化リグニンを合成した。このエポキシ化リグニンを、フェノールノボラックまたは爆砕リグニンを用いて硬化させた結果、いずれの場合も高い化学的・物理的耐熱性を有する硬化物が得られた。また、硬化剤としてリグニンを用いた場合には、硬化物中のリグニン含有量は89wt%に達した。
