We designed an analog single-electron (SE) information-processing circuit that mimics the behavior of a fish shoal. Although SE circuits are functional, there is not yet an optimum information-processing method established for them. To tackle this issue, we take inspiration from the behavior of fish shoals, where each fish determines its behavior by interacting with other fish, as in a multi-agent system. We demonstrated our SE circuit to effectively mimic one of the three rules of the Boids algorithm regarding fish shoal behavior through computer simulation. We believe our approach is a strong candidate for SE circuits having optimum information processing.

We propose a single-electron (SE) information processing circuit that mimics the behavior of slime mold. While SE circuits have advantages such as parallel processing and low power consumption, a suitable information processing method has not yet been established for them. Thus, we focus on the behavior of slime mold to develop a suitable information processing method. Reportedly, slime molds can solve the traveling salesman problem (TSP) if their behaviors (i.e. stretching and shrinking) are harnessed. In a simulation results, our information processing method for SE circuits mimics a series of slime mold behaviors to derive the optimal solutions for the TSP. [GRAPHICS] .

We propose a single-electron (SE) reservoir computing (RC) circuit. The circuit consists mainly of SE oscillators (SEOs) whose behavior resembles that of a neuron. In our RC circuit, the reservoir layer has arrayed SEOs. We let the circuit learn a sawtooth wave and a sine wave and confirmed an effect of learning of the circuit by computer simulation.

We propose a process for easily fabricating a unique one-dimensional fullerene crystal, i.e., a fullerene finned-micropillar (FFMP). To fabricate a one-dimensional fullerene crystal more easily than when using current processes, fullerene was first annealed at 1173 K for 1 h with an argon gas flow of 0.5 L/min. We then examined how the FFMP structure changed when the fabrication process conditions, such as temperature, annealing time, and argon gas flow rate, were varied. FFMPs can be prepared within a short time and may have the same electrical characteristics as other one-dimensional crystals, e.g., fullerene nanowhiskers, so they are expected to be very useful for field-effect transistors, organic photovoltaics, and so on in the near future.

We propose a novel single-electron (SE) circuit with unique information-processing that mimics the behavior of bubble film, i.e., a "bubble-inspired SE circuit." It is known that the behavior of bubble film can be assumed to solve the shortest Steiner problem. In this study, we focus on the behavior to design a novel SE circuit. For this, there are three important points, we believe, for mimicking the behavior for the circuit: 1) the film gradually shrinking, 2) the film stopping shrinking when reaching points like pillars, and 3) films stopping shrinking when they collide with each other. We here designed and tested our SE circuit. By computer simulation, we confirmed that the designed circuit displayed the three processes correctly as desired. Therefore, the "bubble-inspired SE circuit" we designed has the potential for novel information processing.
