<p>Even though mobile payment systems can be regarded as two-sided platform services, whose users are both of retailers and their customers, little research has been done from the retailers' perspective so far. This research, using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach (M-GTA) and Trajectory Equifinality Approach (TEA), intends to present how small retail shop owners make decisions on adoption and continuous use of a QR code-based mobile payment system by diagrams and story lines. The significance of “Iji," a Japanese word representing feelings trying to push through one's resolution, emerged from the analysis, and the concept was discussed through reviewing existing papers and features of participant retail shop owners.</p>

In a knowledge- or information-based society where various information technologies are integrated and diverse, fostering problem-solving skills and value creation abilities are increasingly important for higher education institutions. The information literacy education (ILE) as the foundation of such skill development is required to constantly adapt itself to the rapidly-changing information society. To better improve the ILE, upon grasping university students' attitudes toward information literacy education, its design requires clarifying educational goals and objectives, knowledge areas and skills to be acquired, level of acquisition, teaching methods, and assessment methods. The level of information literacy at freshmen has been diversifying. Based on the result of the information literacy survey for the development of the general ILE at Yokohama National University, this paper presents gained knowledge through comparisons with the previous literatures and colleges.

<p>Yokohama Business Game (YBG) is an online platform where people can develop and operate business games. From its development in 2001, YBG has been used in many educational and/or research institutes. However, understanding of the concept and availability of YBG is not sufficiently penetrated. For the purpose of expanding business game developers and users, and developing the methodology and technology of simulation & gaming, this paper provides a better understanding of YBG concepts and its potential. After showing the concept and history of YBG, the paper clarify the characteristics of YBG and show that the current YBG is based on the IT services supporting the business game activity and the user community. This implies that YBG can implement various types of business games and can be used for education and research efficiently and effectively.</p>

Theory of corporate strategy currently focuses on strategy formulation of dynamic innovation strategy and platform strategy. This paper proposes a methodology to examine theory of dynamic strategy with gaming, and provides an example of its usage in a business school. The gaming model of the game has qualitative input to represent a strategy and quantitative output to describe financial results. By using such models, we can integrate the abstract nature of theory of strategy and practical and concrete implication for managers.

The curation is the process of collecting, organizing and displaying web contents of interest by putting them into a particular context. This paper describes a series of educational practice researches aiming at exploring how curation transforms student's attitude toward learning, and what are the effects of curation learning. The authors applied a curation learning support system to each practice. Based on the results of the qualitative and statistical analysis, we discuss how curation method could contribute to our country's higher education and how the learning based on the principle of social motivation is realized by utilizing new information technology in the information and knowledge-based society.

Although Japan has a significant IT-related industries and IT is widely utilised throughout its society, the research into management informatics has been developed somewhat isolated from the rest of the world. The number of participants, let lone paresenters, from Japan in the AIS (Association for Information Systems) sponsorerd conferences, such as ICIS (International Conferences on Information Systems) and PACIS (Pacific-Asia Conferences on Information Systems), for example, has been very small, compared with other Asian countries. The objectives of this session is to promote AIS conferences and related activities of JPAIS/JASMIN, to share experiences

The SIG-ISRM has been discussing methodological potential of qualitative inquiries with their philosophical assumptions to explore the effective methods in IS research. The SIG has been also focusing on the mixed methods research (MMR) and the design science research (DSR), and discussing these philosophical assumptions and the applicability to IS research. In the workshop, a SIG member will be giving the participants an outline of MMR, DSR and their relationship to IS and discussing relationship between MMR and DSR and their significance in IS research by focusing on pragmatism and critical realism as epistemology and ontology. Discussing whether or not the critical realism-based MMR and DSR could contribute to IS research in our country and exploring what should be done in our community.

The level of research quality in Management Informatics in our country is by no means low. However, it is hard to say that research results are widely published in high quality international academic journals. The Japanese researchers also don't have much of a presence in the global community of Management Informatics and its related areas. In this respect, we cannot help but say that Management Informatics in our country is isolated from the world. This session aims at exploring strategies for internationalization for research in Management Informatics, and embodying the knowledge acquired through JASMIN.

This research looks at the adoption of social media (SM) applications comparing the factors that influence adoption at work. This exploratory study intends to examine factors of SM adoption that are common in both Japan and the United States. After a comprehensive literature review, we derived a research model for and tested related hypotheses with data collected from respondents in Japan (n=365) and the US (n=304). We found organizations using SM for product advertising (82%), research (58%), sales (47%), recruiting (39%), developing communities (33%) and improving customer service (35%). In this paper we analyze work-related variables between Japan and the US and found significant differences in the use of SM to improve job performance and effectiveness.

Since today's enterprise information systems are becoming highly advanced, larger and infrastructured, the IT human resources development has been getting more needed. Such human resources are people who can appropriately design and maintain information systems, according to the given business objectives. In the SIG-EiMIS (Educational Issues in MIS) workshop, we address important issues and aspects of reference models such as UISS (Users' Information Systems Skill Standards) and COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology) and discuss attributes and skills needed for IT human resource, and learning objectives needed for higher education in future.

In general, obtaining the conceptual model in the real world becomes difficult as the range of object domain grows. In that case, the object is divided into some overlapping parts, and conceptual model is obtained by integrating models of each part. Or, the object is recognized at a higher abstraction level, and conceptual model is gradually improving. In this paper, we consider formal semantics of ER diagrams (ERD) in order to explore its possibility for the integration modeling approach.

There are several diagram methods for data modeling like a class diagram. It is very hard to describe a big data model of a large enterprise system into one diagram. A large set of partial data models are used during designing an information system for a large enterprise. The skill of modelers makes fluctuation and discrepancy among data models. It is necessary how to keep consistency among data models. We present a study of algebraic structure for semantics of a class diagram and the consolidation condition for consisting class diagram algebra. We propose a method to check consistency among class diagrams based on class diagram algebra.

Information system must be constantly maintained, improved, and innovated according to the change of internal or external setup. Whole activities of information system project organization concerning IS maintenance, improvement, innovation, and financial or organization support to the project organization is called information system process. Today's information systems are so complicated and complex that information system process must be accomplished by more than one organization, and it is also not easy to identify the boundary of Information systems or stakeholder of information system processes. We recognize the obscurity of the boundary of information system and its stakeholders, and provide a critical consideration into the existing recognition of stakeholder concept.

In the data mining fields, we often adopt the selection method that limit great many combinations of item sets to a certain set of rules a priori by the given conditions and thresholds, and some techniques to visualize the selected rules. The oriented graphs, matrix diagrams and Venn diagrams are widely utilized. In this paper, we give a mathematical consideration for representation with Venn diagrams and show some useful conditions for the visualization forms. Next we propose new form of diagram based on the conditions. And we illustrate an implementation using our approach. Finally we discuss the effectiveness of our technique.
