ハーバーマスのコミュニケーション的行為の理論をてがかりとしながら、理解と了解の違いに着目し、相互了解による人間形成論を構築した。相互了解は、ある対象について他者とともに意味を形成していく行為である。ここでは、三項関係が成立し、人は対象化されるのではなく、ともに意味を共有する相手になる。互いの解釈をすり合わせることによって、ひとつの意味を共有することに、相互了解の人間形成的意味があることを提案した。
