化学架橋PVAゲルを乾燥させるとゲル内に微結晶が形成される。この試料を濃度の異なるDMSO/アセトン混合溶媒中に順番に投入して平衡膨潤比を測定した。結果、最初の膨潤・収縮過程では膨潤比が履歴を伴い不可逆的に変化したが、それ以降の膨潤・収縮過程では可逆的に変化した。これは、ゲル内の微結晶の崩壊と再形成によって説明された。
