  • Akihiko Ito received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in engineering from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. His dissertation was on the electrical properties of alkaline-earth ruthenate thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition. After a two-year post-doctoral appointment working on generation of vector laser beam, Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Japan, he joined the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan in 2009, where he was an assistant professor. He is currently an associate professor with the Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences, Yokohama National University, Yokohama, Japan. His current research interests include synthesis of self-organized nanostructured ceramic coatings for structural and functional materials via chemical vapor deposition with an intense laser field. Dr. Ito is a member of the Ceramic Society of Japan, the American Ceramic Society, the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy, and the Japan Society of Applied Physics.
