Akihiko Ito received the B.Eng., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in engineering from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. His dissertation was on "Electrical Properties of Alkaline-earth Ruthenate Thin Films Prepared by Pulsed Laser Deposition".
After a two-year post-doctoral appointment working on "Generation of Vector Laser Beam" at Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Japan, he joined Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan in 2009, where he was an assistant professor working on "Laser Chemical Vapor Deposition of Hard and Environmental Barrier Coatings" and "Spark Plasma Sintering of Transparent Ceramics and Composite Materials".
He is currently an associate professor with Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences, Yokohama National University, Yokohama, Japan. His current research interests include "Self-organized Nanostructured Ceramics for Structural and Functional Applications via Vapor Deposition Process with an Intense Laser Field" and "Chemical Vapor Deposition of Transparent Thick Films".
Dr. Ito is a member of the Ceramic Society of Japan, the American Ceramic Society, the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy, the Japan Society of Applied Physics, and the JSPS 124th Committee on Advanced Ceramics.
