How Has Business Administration Connected Sustainability and Well-being?
Jikuya Yasutaka, Mogi Haruki
Akamon Management Review advpub ( 0 ) 2026.4
Language:Japanese Publishing type:Research paper (scientific journal) Publisher:Global Business Research Center Joint Work

In the field of management studies, there has been growing interest in sustainability and well-being; however, systematic research that organizes the relationship between these two concepts remains limited. The purpose of this study is to clarify the research trends on sustainability and well-being in the field of management, to interactively analyze how the two concepts have been addressed and the types of relationships that have been assumed between them, and to derive future research agendas. To achieve this, a systematic literature review was conducted on 33 relevant articles published in the top 50 journals selected by the Financial Times (FT50). The methodologies and research subjects of each paper were extracted and compared, and the articles were classified into five research streams. In addition, the conceptualizations of sustainability and well-being were examined across these streams. This study makes an academic contribution by structuring the previously fragmented discussions on the relationship between the two concepts and by presenting future research challenges and directions.

Entrepreneurial Survival Strategies in the VUCA Era

AOSS Transactions 2025.11
Authorship:Last author, Corresponding author Language:English Publishing type:Research paper (scientific journal) Joint Work

How do resource-constrained entrepreneurs secure investment without relying on economic signals? This study addressed the critical question through a systematic review: Specifically, focusing on legitimacy through storytelling and prosocial orientation, our review suggests 1) Entrepreneurs' storytelling triggers prosocial motivation in investors; 2) The warm-glow effect moderates investment decisions in ventures with ambiguous economic returns; 3) The difficulty of balancing entrepreneurs' prosocial orientation and economic signals in securing investment. In prosocial contexts, economic signals hurt investment acquisition. This suggests that in situations lacking strong economic signals, the warm-glow effect emerges as a moderator in investment acquisition, and entrepreneurs employed storytelling in legitimacy building. This paper offers a novel perspective on investor motivation and provides practical insights for entrepreneurs to build competitive advantage through prosocial and emotional appeals in the VUCA era.

Organizational Science 58 ( 4 ) 77 - 91 2025.4 [Reviewed]
Authorship:Lead author, Corresponding author Language:English Publishing type:Research paper (scientific journal) Publisher:The Academic Association for Organizational Science Single Work

Entrepreneurial storytelling has emerged as a growing area of research in this century; however, the mechanisms through which it exerts influence remain insufficiently explored. This study analyzes data from the Japanese IPO market to examine the effects of entrepreneurial storytelling. The findings of this study suggest that entrepreneurial storytelling, particularly in shaping venture identity, may influence the acquisition of external resources.
