  • 海氷-海洋結合生態系モデルによる海氷域生態系の動態把握に関する研究

    オホーツク海の北海道沿岸部を舞台として、海氷域における生態系動態について、現地計測および、海氷-海洋結合生態系モデルによって検討した。
    海氷と海洋との間の物質交換を詳細に記述した本モデルは世界初のものである。計算結果を観測結果と比較することで入念な検証を行った。また、北海道サロマ湖の氷上にて現地計測を行い、アイスアルジーの冬季ブルームなど、滅多に入手できない貴重なデータを得た。モデルの検証を行った上で、計算結果を解析し、海氷がある海の物質循環の機構を解明した。その結果、潮汐と太陽放射とが駆動する有期態炭素の流れがあることを発見し、「日射潮汐ポンプ」として提唱した。
    また、海氷域における資源開発による環境へのインパクトを評価するツールとして有用であることも示した。

    オホーツク海の海洋物理場(流れ・水温・塩分・流氷分布)を再現する海洋数値モデルを作成した。計算結果を既存の観測資料と比較することで、モデルを検証した。その結果、本モデルは、表層水温・東サハリン海流の変動・低塩分水の挙動について概ね実現象を再現できることが分かった。
    そのうえで、計算結果を解析することにより、オホーツク海の生態系にとって重要な表層低塩分水の形成メカニズムの解明を試みた。従来、アムール川のみが水塊のソースとして論じられることが多かったが、それはまばらな観測資料をもとにした定性的知見であった。本研究による定量的検討により、アムール川由来と海氷融解由来との量的・場所的役割が明らかとなった。

    義務教育と海洋教育との連携を模索するためのグループ活動を開始した。児童や生徒に海を知ってもらい興味を抱いてもらうために、教育現場において彼らと接する「先生」という立場の人たちにも海を知ってもらうことが重要との認識のもと、教諭と教員養成課程学生を対象とした「海洋教育夏季研修」を企画・運営した。初めに海洋研究と教育の現状を知ってもらい、次に教室現場で海を教育内容の中に取り込むとすればどうするかを考えてもらうためのワークショップを実施した。
