     View Summary

    Design of ship hull structure can be divided into 3 categories, i.e. basic design to determine general arrangement and midship section, detailed design to determine detailed structural shape and scantlings, and production design / lofting to develop production and piece drawings for actual construction. Through all these stages, rational design can be accomplished by the application of optimization techniques. In this paper, the author touches upon: 1.Optimizaion of hull structural analysis and mesh division for finite element analysis 2.Optimization of midship initial design and detailed structural shape and scantlings utilizing genetic algorithm 3.Optimization of nesting utilizing new algorithm and shows practical applicability of optimization techniques in these fields.
