  本研究は、まず、諫早湾干拓紛争について、当事者へのインタビュー調査や地域社会でのアンケート調査を行い、また裁判資料や行政資料を分析して、なぜ、この紛争が６０年以上続いているのかを明らかにすることを目的とする。
  次に本研究は、この紛争の解決のためには、これまでの政治理論や法理論・社会理論には何が不足しているのかを明らかにし、より現代社会に適合的な社会科学理論を構築する手がかりを得ることを目的とする。
  第三に、本研究は、得られた知見を積極的に社会に還元し、本紛争の解決に間接的に寄与することを目的とする。
