    Experiments were carried out on five partial frame test specimens at the foundation joint consisting of a grade beam, pile, pile cap, and external (corner) column of a reinforced concrete building. The specimens adopted headed threaded reinforcement, which has anchor plates at the end of reinforcement bars, to fix the beam reinforcement in the joint to the concrete. Headed reinforcement tends to spread cracks through the anchor plate. It is shown that the cracks passing through the anchor plate of the beam may affect the bending capacity of the column when column yielding precedes. We developed a capacity calculation model that can estimate the test results.

    Seismic tests on 18 scaled RC cantilever beams and 6 RC beam-column joint subassembladges which were designed to have ductile flexural behavior were carried out to investigate the seismic collapse safety margin and to develop a model to predict story drift capacity for RC frame buildings. It was observed commonly in the tests that the flexural component of story drift surpassing a limit value, which is a function of shear-to-span ratio, caused the reduction of dowel action of flexural compressive rebars at critical section, which capped the increase of the flexural component of story drift and further increase of shear deformation component beyond a limit which is the function of the amount of stirrups, triggered the formation of plastic buckling of axial reinforcing bar then progressive reduction of strength began.

    Loading tests of reinforced concrete columns and multi-layered beams, and pull out tests of tension reinforcing bars, were carried out. An influence of bond and axial force on the capacity of the member was investigated. Especially, the influence of multi-layered longitudinal bars and cut-off bars was discussed. The shear capacity formula for members failed in shear and bond splitting was improved to be applied to members with multi-layered longitudinal bars including cut-off bars. In addition, inclusive evaluation method to design the flexural members of sufficient performance was proposed; which were consideration of axial force and strain rate, checking method for bond around cut-off bars, and evaluation method of deformation capacity after flexural yielding.
