This research unit will try to grasp the essence of the issues faced by local communities and local companies, extract game design elements that encourage proactive activities to change the behavior of people involved in the issues, and apply them to the real world where the issues are embedded, in cooperation with local communities and companies. At the same time, the unit will develop gaming simulations on local issues and have stakeholders play them to bring about mutual understanding among stakeholders and deeper insight into the issues.

  • Simulation & Gaming Aproaches to Sustainable Development

    Cooperative Research

    Project Year: 2020.4 - 2023.3

     More detail

In an era where improvement of economic development and social welfare are strongly required while they need to satisfy environmental constraints such as that of climate change and global warming, it is difficult, however quite important to increase economic value, environmental value, and social value. The purpose of this research is to explore better ways to increase these three values at the same time, and to establish a methodology of changing our ways of thinking about sustainable development by new simulation & gaming approach.

Even though mobile payment systems can be regarded as two-sided platform services, whose users are both of retailers and their customers, little research has been done from the retailers' perspective so far. This research, using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach (M-GTA) and Trajectory Equifinality Approach (TEA), intends to present how small retail shop owners make decisions on adoption and continuous use of a QR code-based mobile payment system by diagrams and story lines. The significance of “Iji," a Japanese word representing feelings trying to push through one's resolution, emerged from the analysis, and the concept was discussed through reviewing existing papers and features of participant retail shop owners.

In a knowledge- or information-based society where various information technologies are integrated and diverse, fostering problem-solving skills and value creation abilities are increasingly important for higher education institutions. The information literacy education (ILE) as the foundation of such skill development is required to constantly adapt itself to the rapidly-changing information society. To better improve the ILE, upon grasping university students' attitudes toward information literacy education, its design requires clarifying educational goals and objectives, knowledge areas and skills to be acquired, level of acquisition, teaching methods, and assessment methods. The level of information literacy at freshmen has been diversifying. Based on the result of the information literacy survey for the development of the general ILE at Yokohama National University, this paper presents gained knowledge through comparisons with the previous literatures and colleges.
