    東京工業大学 総合理工学研究科 複合材料はそれぞれの構成成分の長所を併せ持つだけでなく,それ以上の機能を生む可能性を持つ。本研究では光機能性高分子と液晶分子との分子レベルでの複合体材料に着目し,その二次元的な単分子膜から三次元的な多層LB膜,スピンコート膜と多階層にわたる特性評価を行った。光機能性高分子としてはアゾベンゼンを側鎖に有する高分子を用いた。アゾベンゼンは,光や熱によって棒状のトランス体と屈曲状シス体の間で可逆的な異性化反応を誘起し,動的光機能性部位として作用する。液晶は,流動的でありながら,長距離の分子配向秩序性を有する特徴的な場を提供する。本研究では,これらのナノハイブリッド膜で発現する固有な現象を明らかにし,新規な光機能性材料としての提案を行った。
